CER 2025 WACKY GAMES for the environment.
On Friday the 10th of October 2025, children from CER Nakuru Chapter, Riruta Satellite Primary School Kiambu, Martin Luther Primary School Nairobi my alma mater were joined by other children including those visiting City Park Forest in Nairobi for our annual WACKY GAMES for the environment. The name came from a little girl who must now be a mother many years ago when I was a primary school teacher in Nairobi. Girls from our high-cost school would raise funds and invite children from other schools and children’s homes for unusual/absurd games. In a nutshell, fun, networking, and environmental awareness were the main items on the menu. Needy children would receive cash or in-kind donations that the environment club had gathered form friends, parents and even corporates.
Later, when we started Teachers’ Environmental Rescue (TER), a community-based organization that engaged children in environmental awareness creation activities like photography, art, music and dance, poetry, drama, clean-ups, and afforestation for environmental conservation, WACKY GAMES were a forum for children from different environmental clubs to come together to play, network, eat together, give thanks for the ending year and pray for the coming year.
Today like with our predecessor TER, Children’s Environmental Rescue (CER) the non-governmental, non-profit organization maintains this tradition alongside others. WACKY GAMES for the environment happen on Mazingira Day, For the past two years running, WACKY GAMES have happened at City Park Forest where CER leads children’s user group in the Community Forest Association. Cleaning the playground, interesting games and forest experience have been the main items on this day of edutainment.
